ABOUT

“Dance is my way of life, I live it, I breathe it, it sustains my being….”

Toronto born dancer/choreographer, entrepenuer Iman, has been dancing since the tender age of 6 years old, but when asked Iman would say, “I've been dancing since I was born!” With both of Iman’s parents being professional Indian dancers in India competing throughout university, it was only natural for Iman to follow in those footsteps, dancing footsteps.

Iman was sent to India to study dance when she was 6 and returned after 2 years well versed in 2 classical Indian dance forms called Bharat Natyam and Khatak. Coming back to Canada only broadened Iman’s dance training, where she kept up with the latest Bollywood dances. While her Punjabi roots brought Bhangra dance form into her life, her western influence brought Hip-hop. Last but not least she was introduced to the exotic belly dance in which she now teaches her very own classes. To keep her passion alive, Iman convinced her mother to let her showcase her talent in local culture shows and weddings in and around the Toronto area. Iman was also selected as one of the top 16 finalists in Canada to compete in Miss India/Canada 2003 where she was given the chance to work on an opening number choreographed by elite and prestigious school of Shiamak Divar, Magicfeet Canada, but that just lighted up another fire inside Iman. Always having had a clear vision of what she wanted to do with her love affair with dance, knowing she wanted it to be something, to grow into a life long love, a commitment, so she took a chance to branch off and start her very own dance company, called Kama Entertainment. The name Kama was inspired from the ancient book of courtship Kama Sutra….. “Using the body as an expression through dance and bringing people of all walks of life together is our mission" says Iman.

Since starting Kama Entertainment in 2003, Iman and her versatile crew of dancers have already performed alongside and back up for some of the biggest names in the Hip hop and East Indian/Bollywood industry. Now if we were to name all of Iman and Kama crews greatest adventures, we would be here forever, but just to give you little peek into Iman’s resume here are a few…. she has performed for the Black Eyed Peas at the 2005 Muchmusic video awards, opened for Sony Urban recording Hip hop artist Lil Flip alongside Toronto’s rnb sensation, the very talented Ms Deesha (www.deesha.com), opening act again with her talented sister Ms Taj for Rishi Rich Project alongside the master Mr Roach Killah and also had the chance to choreograph and showcase her expertise while gracing the stage alongside UK recording, multiplatinum singer/songwriter/producer Sukhshinder Shinda, and the list goes on…..

You can catch Iman at one of her many entertaining events around Toronto or just doing what she loves most next to performing, teaching her Bollywood workshops in 4 very exciting genres of Indian dance: Bollywood Bhangra, Bollywood Filmi, Bollywood Classical and Bollywood Bellydance.

Iman and her crew of dancers can be booked for any type of event from making your wedding or anniversary a special and entertaining experience that you’ll cherish to blowing away your audience at concerts, fashion shows, fundraisers, corporate events and more.
